News Sun Lake County Board District 1 Questionaire

Has Lake County been fiscally responsible when it comes to spending taxpayer money? Why or why not?

I do believe that Lake County has been fiscally responsible, but I believe that more needs to be done to give some relief to homeowners struggling to make ends meet. Even if that means cutting county programs to save money, I would support it.

What tops the county's transportation priority list? What can be done to fix it?

The County is doing a pretty good job maintaining their roads; unfortunately, it's the state roads that are in total disrepair. We need to lobby our State Legislators to get a capital bill passed in Springfield this fall so that we can work to repair these roads.

I believe that public transportation has skyrocketed in importance due to the high cost of gas. We need to look at providing fixed bus routes in the Antioch, Fox Lake, Lake Villa, Lindenhurst areas. We need more Metra service on the North Central Metra line to Antioch, including weekend service and more reverse commute service. We have vanpools available to us through PACE, but they need to be better advertised for those who need more efficient transportation to work. One van can take as many as 12 cars off of our roads, saving gas and providing less congestion, which will help our environment.

Do you support the Forest Preserve District's referendum?

I am withholding judgment on the referendum at this time until we see what the public wants. I suspect that with the recession, residents may not be in the mood to bond another $180,000,000 for additional land. Personally I want more open space and would support the referendum, but as a County Commissioner, I will support the will of the people in my district.

Should Lake County seek Lake Michigan water for unincorporated areas and areas currently without it?

Yes. Communities such as Antioch and Fox Lake, Lake Villa and Lindenhurst need to address the issue of clean drinking water. I believe that Lake Michigan water is a good solution to the problem and should be addressed at this time. We have a window of opportunity to access Lake Michigan water and remain within the allocation limits.

Should Lake County have its own economic development director?

I believe that Lake County Partners does a good job promoting economic development within Lake County. I would need to see the advantage for changing the relationship with Lake County Partners.

Do your interests lie more with the Forest Preserve District or the County Board?

I represent both so, I will need to maintain a balance between the two. I believe they are both of equal importance.
