Dump truck driver ticketed in fatal crash

WAUKEGAN -- A Wisconsin man died after his bicycle collided with a dumptruck Wednesday at the intersection of Grand and Lewis avenues.
Around 1:20 p.m. Waukegan police said the dump truck was traveling northbound on Lewis Avenue when the 43-year-old bicyclist crossed westbound on Lewis Avenue and was hit by the truck.
The cyclist's identity was not available as of late Wednesday night.
The unidentified man was taken from the scene to Vista Medical Center East and then flown to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with head injuries, police said. He was pronounced dead at about 5:30 p.m.
The driver of the truck, Robert May, 49, of Zion, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving with an expired driver's license and operating an uninsured vehicle.
